Evaporative cooling is a well-established method to produce cooler air. The North American market for commercial and consumer-grade portable evaporative coolers is worth $410M annually and is dominated by well-known companies such as PortaCool, Big Ass Fans, and Honeywell selling traditional, rigid-body, design evaporative coolers. These companies produce evaporative coolers that range from small coolers designed to cool an outdoor patio to large cooler designed for large open-air venues. But because all these coolers are heavy and cannot be easily transported, there is a huge unmet market need for truly portable and lightweight coolers that can be carried by one person. All military services already purchase traditional evaporative coolers for base entrance gates, shops, hangars, and other work areas.
